The Haida's home is to be found on Haida Gwaii, otherwise known as the Queen Charlotte Islands, which has been this First Nations ancestral home for over 5,000 years. The Haida are surrounded by water, which influences their culture, food and colours their stories and traditions. The Haida are a tribe who have preserved the central elements to their culture, which is reflected through their songs, dances, language and potlatch ceremonies. Infamous throughout the world as master totem pole carvers, the Haida were one of the first, in the 1800s, to carve miniature totem poles to sell to tourists as souvenirs. Around that time, Charles Edenshaw and other Haida artists were early pioneers in developing the art of engraving/carving in silver, which by now had become another regional icon. "Art was our only written language. It documented our progress as a people, it documented the histories of the families. Throughout our history, it has been the art that has kept our spirit alive." - Robert Davidson, Haida artist. *Please note that all ring on this site can have the size adjusted for only £6.
