Hand woven 'Two Greyhills' rug by master weaver Salina Begay of the Dineh, a vibrant design with a traditional zapotec style graphic.

Salina Begay: I am Red Running into Water People Clan (Ye’ii Tachii’ nii Dine’e). I am Yucca Fruits Strung in a Line People Clan (Hash’aa hadzohi Dine’e). I was born in Black Mesa in the northern portion of the Navajo Nation and have been weaving since 1999. I learned how to weave by observing my mother’s weavings. This is how I support my children as a single parent. For the past 15 years I have had health problems with rumathoid arthritis and my fingers are deformed. I can’t see well because of the arthritis, causing eye, liver, digestive problems and my joints are swollen. I still weave. It keeps me going and keeps my mind off my stress.

Help bring a brighter future to struggling families on the Bennett Freeze reservation. In support of Project Pueblo we strive to end an oppressive and unjust law that forces third world conditions on Navajo communities.
